If you’re anything like me, you probably never leave home without your smartphone. Let’s face it, just about everyone, “except for great-grandpa & grandma” who’s still have their flip phone will have a smartphone.
So, what can you do when your smartphone is the only camera you have at the moment and you need a picture. This is where how to take better pictures with your smartphone can help.
How to Take Better Pictures Tip #1a: Stand Still & Use Both Hands
I know this is an obvious tip but not everyone will hold their phone with both hands and stand still while taking a picture. Often times you may only have one hand available.
Sometimes we catch ourselves holding our smartphone with one hand and walking while trying to take the picture. That’s a “no-no” for beginning photographers, professionals and everyone in between.
How to Take Better Pictures Tip #1b: Try resting your elbows on your torso
We’re all human (at least I hope we’re all human) and no matter how hard we try not to move are shake while taking a picture, we cannot do it.
This is why I encourage you to rest your elbows on your torso for stability and increase your chances of taking a much sharper picture.
How to Take Better Pictures Tip #1c: Hold your shutter button while focusing
Most smartphone cameras will allow for holding the shutter button, or you may have to hold the shutter button and touch your screen, in order to allow your camera to focus.
Either way, you want to hold your shutter button and give the camera a few seconds to focus and then slowly release the button without moving or shaking.
This will greatly increase your chances of getting a better picture indoors with low lighting. When you’re outdoors on a sunny day, your camera should focus much faster.
If your camera does not focus a lot faster when the lighting is bright, please upgrade your phone ASAP.
